The Forestry Commission, the government body responsible for managing and expanding England's forests, has filed a winding-up petition against J&H Logs Ltd, a timber and wood products wholesaler registered in Grantham. A court hearing is set for 9 June 2026.
A winding-up petition is a court filing by a creditor asking the court to make a winding-up order. Filing the petition does not place the company into liquidation; the court must first make an order at a hearing. The petition was presented on 1 May 2026 and published in the London Gazette on 27 May 2026.
The petition and hearing
The hearing is listed before the Insolvency and Companies List (ChD), the specialist list within the Chancery Division of the High Court that handles insolvency and company-law applications, sitting as the Business and Property Courts in Leeds, at Fourth Floor, West Gate, 6 Grace Street, Leeds LS1 2RP. The court reference is CR-2026-LDS-000444. The matter is listed to be called at 10am on Tuesday 9 June 2026, or as soon thereafter as the petition can be heard.
The Forestry Commission, whose registered address for the petition is 620 Bristol Business Park, Coldharbour Lane, Bristol BS16 1EJ, claims to be a creditor of J&H Logs Ltd. The petitioner's solicitors are Michelmores LLP, of Woodwater House, Pynes Hill, Exeter EX2 5WR.
Anyone wishing to appear at the hearing, whether to support or oppose the petition, must give notice under rule 7.14 of the Insolvency (England and Wales) Rules 2016 by 4pm on Monday 8 June 2026.
The company
J&H Logs Ltd is registered at 1 Main Street, Knipton, Grantham NG32 1RW and was incorporated on 23 January 2018. It operates under SIC code 46730, the classification for wholesale of wood, construction materials and sanitary equipment. Companies House records show the company filed its most recent accounts as a micro-entity, made up to 31 March 2025. Its status at Companies House remains active.
The sole director is Jonathan David Bowes, who has held the role since incorporation on 23 January 2018. No resignations are recorded.
Secured lenders
Two outstanding registered charges sit against J&H Logs Ltd. HSBC UK Bank PLC holds a fixed and floating charge over all assets, created on 23 February 2022 and delivered to Companies House the following day. Skipton Business Finance Limited holds a separate fixed and floating charge, created on 24 August 2022, covering freehold and leasehold property, plant and machinery, and a range of intellectual property rights including patents, trade marks, copyrights and computer software rights; that charge was delivered on 25 August 2022. Both charges remain outstanding.
A floating charge is a type of security over assets that change from time to time, such as stock or cash. It floats over the asset class until it crystallises on insolvency, at which point it attaches to whatever assets exist at that moment.
What happens next
If the court makes a winding-up order at the 9 June hearing, J&H Logs Ltd would enter compulsory liquidation, that is, liquidation imposed by court order rather than a voluntary process resolved by the company's own members. The Official Receiver, a civil servant of the Insolvency Service, would automatically take office as liquidator unless creditors subsequently nominate a licensed insolvency practitioner to replace them.
No administrators have been appointed and no moratorium is in place. The petition remains a filing; no order has yet been made.
Common questions
What does a winding-up petition mean for J&h Logs Limited?
A petition is a court filing, not a court order. J&h Logs Limited is not yet in liquidation. The court will consider the petition at the date listed in the notice; until then, the company continues to trade, but its bank may freeze accounts and counterparties may stop extending credit. The court can dismiss the petition, adjourn it, or grant a winding-up order.
Are you owed money by J&h Logs Limited?
You are not yet a creditor in a liquidation; the company is still trading. If you support the petition, you may file a notice of support at the court named in the notice. If the petition is granted, you become an unsecured creditor in the resulting compulsory liquidation and the Official Receiver will invite you to submit a proof of debt.
Did you work at J&h Logs Limited?
A petition does not by itself terminate your employment. Wages and holiday pay continue to accrue until the company stops paying you or is wound up. Watch the bank position closely; if accounts are frozen, payroll will be the first thing to fail. If the petition is granted, statutory redundancy and notice claims become payable from the Redundancy Payments Service.
Are you a director of J&h Logs Limited?
Once a petition is filed, the company's directors have a heightened duty to consider the interests of creditors. Continuing to trade where there is no reasonable prospect of avoiding insolvent liquidation can expose directors to personal liability for wrongful trading under Section 214 of the Insolvency Act 1986. Specialist insolvency advice should be taken immediately.
